UPDATE: Port of Yantian expected to fully reopen on 24th June

by | Jun 23, 2021

Following efforts to control the earlier Covid-19 outbreak at Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT), we are now receiving reports that disruption is beginning to ease.

It is expected that the Port of Yantian will resume full operation on 24th June (tomorrow).

Hutchison Ports, which operates YICT, says: “Covid-19 has been effectively under control in the [Yantian] port area, and the operation capacity of the terminals has steadily recovered. It is now decided that – from 00:00 on 24th June – Yantian will resume full operations.”

Although average waiting times at Yantian currently stand at seven days or more, this is a significant improvement on the two-week delay we previously reported.

Meanwhile, disruption continues at other Chinese ports, with Qingdao experiencing delays of 0.5-1 day on average, Ningbo and Shanghai at 2 days, and Nansha, Shekou and Hong Kong are all facing waiting times of up to 3 days.

There are also issues at ports in the wider subcontinent, with congestion causing delays at Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Pusan, Port Kelang, and Singapore, while other locations – such as Chittagong and Myanmar – are currently full.

We continue to work closely with our network to monitor the situation and advise customers to contact their Customer Development Manager for updates or to discuss any concerns.

Don’t forget that we also offer a range of outstanding airfreight services to complement your existing ocean / land supply chain solutions.
